Fred D. Mensing, 82, of Dows, died on Thursday morning (February 26, 1976) at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion where he had been taken on Wednesday. For the past year he had been a patient at Golden Acres Manor in Dows.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery and the Willim Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

He was born on January 26, 1894 in Lee Township of Franklin County, the son of Fred and Augusta Fielder Mensing and grew to manhood in the area of his birth. On March 9, 1921 he was married to Martha Horstman at Hampton. They farmed in Franklin and Wright counties until they retired to Dows in 1952.

Mr. Mensing is survived by his wife, three sons and one daughter: Keith of Des Moines; Beryl of Osage; Dick of Nevada, Iowa and Mrs. Jack (Marie) Gilmore of Alden. He is also survived by ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; three sisters; one son, Kenneth in 1956 and one grandchild.

Mr. Mensing was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a past member of the Knights of Pythias and Modern Woodmen of America.
