August 1, 1897 --- April 16, 1992

Melvin Thomas Hill, 94, passed away Thursday, April 16, 1992, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa.

Melvin, was born August 1, 1897 at Herscher, Illinois to Hallick and Julia Hill. At a very early age he moved with his parents to Thor, Iowa and later to Kanawha. He attended school in the rural area of Kanawha. He was united in marriage with Eliza Johnson on June 15, 1921 at her parents farm home near Kanawha. The couple began farming in the Kanawha area. In November of 1947 Eliza passed away.

He was a strong sports enthusiast. He was a baseball pitcher, later umpired baseball throughout Northern Iowa, and pitched softball on a local team at the Kanawha diamond. His sense of humor was loved by everyone, and he never complained of being alone.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Eliza, a daughter Myrna Jean; his parents; sisters Lydia, Bertha, Anne, Ollie and Hattie; brothers Henry, Helmer and a son-in-law Robert Larson. He is survived by his three children: Darlene Larson of Forest City, Iowa; Mervin and wife Connie of Balsam Lake, Wisconsin; and Darold and wife Clara of Wilmington, Illinois; ten grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
