Merle (Bud) Echelberger, 62, Dows, died at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines Friday afternoon. He had been in his usual health and entered the hospital Friday morning.

Born December 7, 1907 at Lehigh, Iowa, the son of George and Minnie Widick Echelberger he received his education in the Dows area schools and spent most of his life here.

On July 21, 1929 he was married to Bessie Thurmond at Waterloo, Iowa. To this union five children were born and they all survive with the widow. They are Donald, Pomona, Calif.; Richard, Gainesville, Fla.; Gary, Dows; Mrs. Frank (Constance) Deason, Mt. Clair, Calif., and Mrs. Darwin (Diane) Norem, Iowa Falls.

Also surviving are seven grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters, Ross and A. O. Echelberger, both of Dows, and Mrs. Leola Lampson, Pomona, Calif, and Mrs. Fay King of Dows. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Mr. Echelberger was employed for many years by the Dows Construction Company. He served in the Navy in World War II and was a member of the Dows American Legion. He was also a member of the United Methodist church.

Services were held at the United Methodist church at 2;00 p. m. for Merle Echelberger, 62, on Monday. The Rev. E. E. Cuddeback, pastor, was in charge of the service. Military burial was in charge of the Watson Beach Post #425, Dows American Legion at the Fairview Cemetery. The Willim Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
