Funeral services for Ross Echelberger of Dows were held from the Dows Presbyterian Church on Sunday, August 10 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Terry Palmer officiating. Burial was in the Dows Fairview Cemetery and Military Rites conducted by the Dows American Legion.

The Willim Funeral Home in Dows had charge of arrangements. He died Thursday, August 7, at the Mercy Hospital in Mason City after a short illness.

He was born November 2, 1894 in Homer, Iowa and was the son of George and Minnie Widick Echelberger. He was raised and educated in Lehigh, Iowa and on October 14, 1920 he was united in marriage to Esther Haupt at Clarion, Iowa. After their marriage they farmed in Wright and Cerro Gordo counties and in 1951 they moved to Dows where he was owner and operator of the Dows Construction Company until retiring in 1965.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, a member of the American Legion for over 50 years and was a WW I veteran serving from February 25, 1918 until April 29, 1919.

He is survived by one son of Thornton and one daughter Mrs. LaVerne (Delores Jean) Behrens of Lowell, Arkansas.

Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, one brother, Adrian of Belmond and one sister, Mrs. Fay King of Dows.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 2 brothers, one sister and one grandson.
