Bessie "LuAnn" Steenblock, age 77, of Belmond, IA, died Thursday, August 27, 2020, at the Clarion Health and Wellness Center, Clarion, IA. Public funeral services will be at 10 AM, Monday, August 31, 2020, at Andrews Funeral Home, 516 1st Street S.E., Belmond. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM until the time of service Monday. Memorials in LuAnn's memory may be directed to your favorite charity .

Bessie LuAnn Cumpston, the daughter of August and Beulah (Walker) Cumpston, was born March 16, 1943, in Arnold, Nebraska. She was baptized and grew up in the Church of the Nazarene. LuAnn attended Arnold Community School and continued her education at Sunshine Bible Academy in South Dakota. LuAnn settled in the North Central Iowa area after visiting over the holidays with a friend from Kanawha, IA who also attended the Sunshine Bible Academy.

LuAnn was united in marriage to Leonard "Len" Steenblock on April 29, 1961. Their union was blessed with two sons, Paul and John. LuAnn was a life-long home maker and enjoyed raising her boys and supporting them in all their endeavors.

After moving to Belmond, Iowa, Lu was employed as a CNA at the Belmond Hospital for a period of time beginning in 1959. She then was employed at the Mellow Maid Restaurant, sold advertising for PSI and the Reminder and worked at P & G Deli in Belmond. LuAnn also worked in the Veterinary Office of Dr. Warden for a number of years. Her love for animals remained constant through the years and she had several dogs. Her dogs Josie and Emma were a delight to her in her later years.

She was a member of the Belmond United Methodist Church since moving to Iowa and enjoyed various functions and events there through the UMW. Len and Lu were active in their card club for many years and looked forward to outings to play Bridge and visiting with their friends and family. She was a strong kind lady who took great solace in the simple things that life brought. She relished her closest friends and she never focused on materialism or the spot light. LuAnn was fiercely loyal to her friends and those she loved. She faced a number of health challenges over the years and knew much about affliction. Her faith in God was strengthened through these experiences. LuAnn lives on in the lives of Len Steenblock, Belmond, IA, Paul (Sue) Steenblock, Denver, CO and their children Melissa, Micaela, and Cameron, and John Steenblock, Garner, IA; LuAnn’s siblings: Marlon (Marge) Cumpston, Calloway, Nebraska, Charlie (Kathleen) Cumpston, North Platte, Nebraska, and Perry (Shirley) Cumpston, also Nebraska, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, August and Beulah, step-father Harold Markee, a sister Elyene Andre, and brother Dean Cumpston.
