HAMPTON – Berniece Echelberger, 80, of Hampton, Iowa, formerly of Greene, Iowa, passed away Thursday (Feb. 3, 2005) at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton with the Rev. Roger Crawford and the Rev. Randy Crane officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Dows.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.

She was born on Sept. 19, 1924, in Dows, Franklin County, the daughter of Ross and Veva (Bridges) Peyton.

She received her education at the Dows School, graduating with the class of 1941.

She was married to Raymond Schwieger. To this union, two sons, Daniel and Randy, were born. Raymond was killed in action during World War II.

She later married Vern Echelberger at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, and to this union one son was born, Royce.

She became a member of First Presbyterian Church in Dows, Iowa, in 1948, and later became a member at First Presbyterian Church in Greene.

Living family members include one son, Royce Echelberger of Hampton; daughter-in-law, Susan Schwieger of Florida; sister, Irene Banordin of Cedar Falls; brother, Ron and wife, Helen Peyton, of Hampton; eight grandchildren; 12 greatgrandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Daniel and Randy; three brothers, Marvin, Max and Lewis; one sister, Lucille; two husbands; and one granddaughter, Mandy Jo, in infancy.
