Mrs. G. F. Kiester Dies at Cedar Falls

Cedar Falls – Mrs. George F. Keister, 62, resident of Goldfield, Ia., many years, died Wednesday morning at the home of a son, Charles Pinkham, 2322 Clay street, where she had been visiting since in January. Death was due to a bronchial ailment.

Mrs. Keister was president of the Wright county W. C. T. U. 10 years, and was active in Legion auxiliary. P. T. A., Rebekah and United Presbyterian mission society work.

The former Christie McCallum was born Aug. 25, 1874, near Middleville, Mich., and lived in and around Sandwich, Ill., during her childhood days.

Mr. Keister is dead. Surviving are five sons, Charles Pinkham, by a former marriage, Max, Eagle Grove, Lon, Goldfield, Scott, Storm Lake, and Watt, Battle Creek, la.; two brothers, John, Goldfield, and Duncan, Des Moines, and a sister, Mrs. Lon Gano, Santa Barbara, Cal., who is visiting in the Pinkham home here.

The body is at the Dahl funeral home.

Hold Last Rites for Mrs. Keister

Funeral services for Mrs. George Keister were held at the United Presbyterian church on Friday afternoon. The Rev. John Haupt conducted the service and burial was in the Glenwood cemetery. The Rebekah Lodge conducted the service at the grave.

Mrs. Keister has been in failing health for several months and has been cared for at the home of her son, Charles Pinkham at Cedar Falls. Death came suddenly Wednesday morning.

Mrs. Keister has been a resident of this community for over forty years and during this time has been actively interested in all organizations that were for the welfare of the community. She served as county president of the W. C. T. U. for several years. She was a charter member of the Legion Auxiliary, a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the local W. C. T. U. She was always active in the church and Sunday School of the United Presbyterian church.

Obituary

Christie Ann McCallum was born, August 25, 1874, in Kent county, near Grand Rapids, Mich. In 1882 she moved with her parents to Somonauk, Ill., and in 1896, from there to a farm near Goldfield, Ia., in which community she spent most of the remainder of her life. Soon after moving toe Goldfield she married Royal Pinkham and they had one son, Charles Pinkham, of Cedar Falls, Iowa

She was married again some years later to Geo. F. Keister, also of Goldfield. Of their six sons, Mack, Lon, Scott, Watt, Kent and Ward, all are living except Kent and Ward who both died in early childhood. A step-son, Geo. H. Keister, died in 1931.

Church Member

Mrs. Keister has been a member of the United Presbyterian church since a young girl, joining first in Somonauk and retaining her membership in Goldfield until her death. She was a charter member of the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion Post at Goldfield, and is well known for her activities in both the local and county chapter of the Rebekah Lodge. She has taken an active part in all civic enterprises, and for the past ten years has been president of the Wright County W. C. T. U.

After Mr. Keister’s death on March 15, 1936, she remained in Goldfield, being intermittently with her son, Charles Pinkham of Cedar Falls. After a lingering illness through the past year, she passed away on March 17, 1937, at the home of her son in Cedar Falls, very suddenly.

Relatives Survive

Mrs. Keister is survived by five sons: Charles H. Pinkham of Cedar Falls, Mack Keister of Eagle Grove, Lon Keister of Goldfield, Scott Keister of Storm Lake, and Watt Keister of Battle Creek. There are three step-children: Mrs. Henry Johnson of Eagle Grove, Coyle Keister of Los Angeles, Calif., and Mrs. William Larson of Goldfield. There also remain two brothers, John S. McCallum of Goldfield and Duncan D. McCallum of Des Moines; and one sister, Mrs. R. A. Gano of Santa Barbara, Calif.

The following people from out-of-town attended the funeral. Mrs. R. A. Gano of Santa Barbara, Calif., Mrs. Duncan McCallum, Mrs. Chas. Vander Linden, Mrs. Ben Thompson and Mr. and Mrs. Bryon Swanson, all of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Harry Colee of Rinard; Mrs. Lillian Patterson and Mr. and Mrs. Owen Patterson of Rolfe, Mrs. Frank Keister of Elmore, Minn., Mrs. H. D. Mussman, Jr., of Lakota; Vic Lee and John Stock and the Misses Phyllis Kleist and Vivian Gaffey of Storm Lake, and Miss Dora Seegar of Cedar Falls.
