S. W. PINKHAM DIES TUESDAY IN DES MOINES

Funeral Service For Prominent Goldfield Resident Will Be Thursday Afternoon In Methodist Church

Mr. S. W. Pinkham, 93, died at the Grayson Nursing Home in Des Moines Tuesday afternoon about 2:30 p.m. He had been ill and in the nursing home about 10 days.

Funeral services will be held Thursday December 17 (today) at 2 p. m. in the Methodist church of Goldfield with the Rev. Frank Green officiating. Burial will be in Glenwood cemetery.

Mr Pinkham has been living with his daughter in Des Moines most of the time since the death of his wife about six years ago.

He is survived by his daughters Mrs. A. A. Herrick and Mrs. James Stewart both of Des Moines, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also, one brother H. C. Pinkham of Goldfield and one sister Mrs. Ellen Overbaugh of Spokane, Washington.

Mr. Pinkham has been a prominent resident of the Goldfield area for many years. He served as mayor of the town and on the school board for many years after retiring from the farm.

OBITUARY

Sylvanus Wellington Pinkham was born April 23, 1860, at Argyle, in Green county, Wisconsin. He was the oldest of seven children born to Henry Clay and Miranda Oviatt Pinkham. Of these, two survive Mrs. Ellen Overbaugh of Spokane, Washington, and Henry C. Pinkham of Goldfield, Iowa. The family was a pioneer family, coming to Goldfield, then called Brassfield, in 1874. Wellington taught in the Wright County school, and later settled on the farm a mile east of Goldfield, where he lived until 1909. In December 1894 he was married to Millie A. DeVoe of Argyle, Wisconsin, who died May 12, 1947. The couple had three children, Margie (Mrs. A. A. Herrick) of Des Moines, Iowa, and Josephine (Mrs. James M. Stewart) also of Des Moines, Iowa Vivian another daughter, died in infancy.

Mr. Pinkham was always active in community affairs, having served on the School Board and for many years was Mayor of Goldfield. He died December 15th at the age of 93 years, seven months and twenty-two days.

The deceased had been an attendant at the Goldfield Methodist church, of which he was a regular supporter. Besides the brother and sister and daughters, he is survived by four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and will be missed by many friends.

Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church in Goldfield, December 17th and were conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Frank C. Greene. Mr. Leonard Madison sang "Abide With Me" and "The Old Rugged Cross". Mrs. Glen G. Braden was the organist. Interment was in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield, Iowa. Pall bearers were Clifford Axon, Ray Griffith, Earl Anderson, George Hawkins, Glen Trotter and Kenneth Whyte.

Goldfield Pioneer Dies in Des Moines
