February 12, 1898 ---- October 15, 1994

Oscar Carl Hartwig, 96, passed away October 15, 1994 at the Clarion Community Hospital.

Oscar graduated from High School in 1917, which was the first graduating class of the old Kanawha High School. While in high school his basketball team played on dirt floors. During World War II he received his military training at Ellsworth College in Iowa Falls. While he was in training the war ended and he returned to the family farm.

On July 24, 1920, he was united in marriage to Lula Mae Holck at Garner, Iowa. The couple made their home on the family farm. Oscar played semi-pro baseball for the Boone Valley Boys. Oscar was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Oscar is survived by two daughters: Evelyn and her husband, Harold Abele of Klemme; Dorothy and her husband Walt Greiman of Milan, Missouri; one son: Chuck and his wife, Pat of Kanawha; one sister: Emma Rhoads of Kanawha; twenty-one grandchildren, thirty-four great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lula; a daughter, Gladys Larson; and a son, Jim Hartwig.
