August 16, 1939 ---- May 6, 2020

Darlene K. LeKander, 80, of Burlington, passed away peacefully at 6:51 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Southern Hills Specialty Care of Osceola, Iowa.

Born August 16, 1939 in Renwick, Iowa she was the daughter of Berdell Dutcher and Gladys (Gregerson) Dutcher Hansen. She was a 1958 graduate of Davenport High School. On November 2, 1959 she married Ronald "Zip" LeKander in Davenport. They were married for 46 years before his death on April 13, 2005.

Darlene worked for I.A.A.P. and IRC/TRW. She was the former owner/operator of The Iowa Tavern, owned and operated ZD Rentals and she handled all of the bookwork for LeKander Construction.

She was of the Lutheran faith.

Before her dementia set in, she enjoyed playing cards, hitting the buttons on the slot machine, sipping on wine or throwing back a cold one.

She was known for making some of the best family meals; every birthday was celebrated with a meal, chosen by the one who was being celebrated, and cake. Her family enjoyed her lasagna, fried oysters, fried morel mushrooms and big holiday meals.

Even though Darlene was set in her ways and always told you what she thought, there was no doubt that she loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her face lit up when seeing the great grandchildren either in person or by photo.

Survivors include one daughter; Nickee Scott (Newt Howard) of Bushnell, Illinois; one son Bob (Michelle) LeKander of Burlington; four grandchildren, LaTisha (Dwayne) Snead, Stephanie Leverton, Jillian (Travis) Sullivan and Ashley LeKander; six great-grandchildren, Calvin Olson, Khali Scott, Ronee Scott, Lucas Snead, Tanner Snead and Aden Sullivan; three step siblings; Jane Hanson, Judy McMahon and Jerry (Maggie) Hansen; two sisters-in-law, Karen (Danny) Cabrera and Sharon (Jack) Frazier; one niece, three nephews and three great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father and one brother Robert who drowned in a boating accident, her mother, her step-father Harold Hansen and her husband Zip.

A memorial visitation will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be held in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established for the Alzheimer's Association. According to her wishes, cremation has been entrusted to the care of Lunning Chapel.
