GLADYS M. KNUTSON

Gladys Marie Askelsen was born on January 30, 1907, the daughter of Oscar and Anna Kvale Askelsen at Somonauk, Ill. She relocated with her family to Eagle Grove, Iowa and received her education in Wright County Country School.

She was united in marriage to Marvin Cornelius Knutson of Eagle Grove on September 6, 1933 at Eagle Grove. Following their marriage, the couple first farmed north of Eagle Grove and later near Woolstock. Until returning to Eagle Grove in 1981, they had last farmed in the Kanawha area.

Her husband died on September 16, 1984 and she continued to make her home in Eagle Grove. She has been a resident at the Rotary Ann Retirement Home since December 10, 1993.

She was a member of the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Ruth Circle as well as having been a past member of the Eagle Grove Equality Club.

Gladys Marie Knutson died at the Clarion Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion on January 8, 1995. She had attained the age of 87 years, 11 months, and 8 days.

Survivors include her brother, Kenneth Askelsen and his wife Evelyn of Eagle Grove. Nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two brothers, Howard and Arthur Askelsen.

Graveside, services for Gladys Marie Knutson were held on Tuesday, January 8, 1995 in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. The Reverend Lyle Peters officiated the 10 a.m. services.

Willim Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
