SELMER KNUTSON

Selmer Immanuel Knutson was born on January 15, 1910 the son of Eric and Selle Romseland Knutson at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He received his education in the Eagle Grove school system and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1928. Upon completing his high school education, Selmer attended the University of' Northern Iowa for two years. He entered the United States Navy on April 27, 1944 at Great Lakes, Illinois. Selmer was granted a medical discharge on February 6, 1946 at Shoemaker, California. Following his discharge, he returned to Iowa and the Des Moines area where he held employment in a clerical capacity. Selmer was later employed with the Illinois Central Railroad in Chicago, retiring due to health problems in the mid 1960's. He returned to his hometown where he made his residence and in 1992 entered the Rotary Ann Retirement Home. In 1994 he entered the Rotary Ann Nursing Home where he died on February 24, 1995. He had attained the age of 85 years, one month, and nine days.

He is survived by his sister, Ruby O. Lerdal of Belmond, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews and their families including Harold Bard and his family of Eagle Grove. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, one sister and one half-sister.

Funeral services, for Selmer Immanuel Knutson were held on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 1995 at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove. The Reverend Lyle Peters officiated the 1:30 p.m. service and burial was held in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Presentation of' the United States flag for veteran's burial was conducted by Kenneth Spangler of Eagle Grove V.F.W. Post 642.
