Madison Martin

The remains of Jas. Martin's father were laid to rest in Rose Hill cemetery last Friday afternoon. Rev. Muhleman had charge of the services, which were held at the Martin home at 2:00 o'clock. As announced last week, Mr. Martin died in the hospital at Marshalltown after a lingering illness.

Obituary

Madison Martin was born in the town of Lee, Oneida county, New York State, on May 15, 1849, and while still an infant moved with his parents to Bureau county, Illinois. On the 14th of December, 1868, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Mathews. To this union were born three sons, James Henry, of Eagle Grove, Iowa; Mahlon Lesley, of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Harry Josiah, also of Marshalltown, Iowa. They lived in Illinois 14 years and then moved to North Dakota, where they lived three years. Then they moved back to Illinois, then to Glidden, Iowa, and eight years ago they moved to Marshalltown, Iowa, where he lived until he passed away to that Eternal City not made with hands, on the 13th day of February, 1924.

Besides his wife and three sons he leaves to mourn his passing his only grandson, Arthur James Martin of Eagle Grove, and two great grandchildren, James Arthur and Doris Arline. Also two brothers, Orin Martin of Manlius, Ill., and Henry Martin, of Estherville, Iowa. Also three sisters, Mary Hewitt, Rhoda Plumley and Jeanette Sells, all oi Manlius, Illinois.

We are poorer today because the cemetery has been made dearer and Heaven has been made richer. We mourn our lose and cherish as a priceless treasure the memory of our departed loved one.

Services were held at 2:00 o'clock Friday at the home of J. H. Martin on South Commercial. The services were in charge of W. G. Muhleman, pastor of the M.E. church. Interment was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
