Alfred Leonard Jacobson was born on June 2, 1920, the son of Carl and Carrie Knudson Jacobson in rural Humboldt County He received his education in rural school near Badger, in Humboldt County. following his education, he worked on the family farm.

He was united in marriage to Betty Losee on December 21, 1941, at Waverly. He entered the United States Army on March 5, 1942, at Fort Des Moines. He served during World War II and received his honorable discharge on October 24, 1945, at Fort Sheridan, Illinois. He had attained the rank of TEC 4. Upon returning from the war, he was one of the first members of the Eagle Grove Army National Guard and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post in Eagle Grove.

He entered the construction business with his father-in-law. He purchased the business in 1949 and began Jacobson Construction Company in Eagle Grove. In 1979 he was joined in the business by his son John. The business became known as A & I Construction. He had built many homes and businesses in the Eagle Grove area, but his most prized accomplishment was the building of the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove of which his family is a member. He was a member of the VFW Post #642 in Eagle Grove.

He entered Rotary Ann Nursing Home due his failing health on March 7, 1996. Alfred Leonard Jacobson died on March 17, 1996 at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home at the age of 75 years, 9 months, and 15 days.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Jacobson, Eagle Grove; son John Jacobson and wife, Nancy, Eagle
Grove; daughter Sandi Butt and husband, Ken, Ackley; five grandchildren, three brothers, Clarence Jacobson, Eagle Grove; Paul Jacobson and wife, Bev, Eagle Grove, and Amos Munson and wife, Helen, Fort Dodge, four sisters, Mabel Odland and husband, Irvin; and Viola Armstrong and husband Bob, all of Eagle Grove; Genevieve Thompson, Des Moines, and Connie Kamp, Humboldt, and sister-in-law, Eleanor Jacobson. Eagle Grove. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters, and a granddaughter, Christine Butt.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, March 21, 1996 at the Samuel Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, with the Reverend Carlton Shaw officiating the 2 p.m. services. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Willim Funeral Home, Inc., Eagle Grove, was in charge of arrangements.
