Gunner Knutson funeral Monday

Funeral services for Gunner Knutson, 86, were held Monday afternoon in the Evangelical Lutheran Church with the pastor H. W. Schiller officiating. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Knutson died Friday at the Rotary Ann Home, where he and his wife had resided for the past year.

He is survived by his wife, two sons and two daughters, including the Rev. Dr. Kent Knutson of Minneapolis, who was recently elected as head of the American Lutheran Church, Rev. Gerhard Knutson of Rosemont, Minn., Mrs. Anne Kanten of Milan, Minn, and Mrs. Harold Knutson of this city. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren.

Mr. Knutson was born in Bremnes, Norway in 1884. After his marriage to Gertrude Thorsheim in Norway in 1921, Mr. and Mrs. Knutson came to Goldfield to establish their home.

Mr. Knutson operated a tile factory, farmed and was a surveyor and assessor. He retired in 1951 and the family moved to Eagle Grove. They maintained their residence on South Commercial Ave. until moving to the Rotary Ann Home.

Obituary

Gunner Knutson was born Gunnar Gilje on October 26, 1884 in Bremnes, Norway, the second son of Knut and Cecelia Gilje. He was baptised and confirmed in the Bremnes church. Leaving home after confirmation at the age of 14, he served as a steward on Norwegian ships until coming to the United States to visit an uncle in Humboldt County, Iowa. After working in Washington State and Iowa, he returned to Norway and married Gertrude Thorsheim in 1921 and brought her to Goldfield where they made their home.

Until 1933, he owned and operated a tile factory. From 1933 until his retirement in 1951 he farmed in Wright County and worked as a surveyor and assessor. During this time they were members of Lake Lutheran Church.

In 1951 they retired to Eagle Grove and joined Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church.

He died April 23 in the Rotary Ann Home.

Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death. He is survived by his widow, four children: Kent S. of Minneapolis, Minn.; Gerhard of Rosemount, Minn.; Mrs. Anne Kanten of Milan, Minn, and Mrs. Mildred Knutson of Eagle Grove and 20 grandchildren.

Funeral services were held April 26 at 2:00 p.m. in the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran Church, Rev. H. W. Schiller. Interment in Rose Hill Cemetery.
