Shirley Marie (Knutson) Morgan, the daughter of Olaf and Sadie (Nervig) Knutson, was born on March 31, 1936, in Thor, Iowa. She was baptized, confirmed and later married at Ullensvang Lutheran Church. Shirley was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Eagle Grove High School, “Class of 1953”.

On March 21, 1953, Shirley was united in marriage to Ronald Morgan at Ullensvang Lutheran Church in Thor. For many years they made their home and farmed near Thor and to this union five children were born: Diane, David, Denise, Donna and Darci. Ron and Shirley also lived in Fort Dodge and then retired to Eagle Grove.

Shirley was an active lifelong member of Ullensvang Lutheran Church and served in the Ladies Circle.

One thing that Shirley truly enjoyed was playing Bingo and always looked forward to hooking up with her best friend and sister, Sandy Campbell for a Wednesday evening of Bingo!! Shirley will always be remembered for many things, including her need to care for others and always cooking for her family and any type of gathering – making sure she always prepared 3 salads!!! She also looked forward to decorating her home for the seasons or upcoming holiday – but Christmas was her favorite – she always went over the top and loved shopping for gifts – often forgetting name tags or losing them so family often opened someone else’s gift!!. She was a CUBS fan rarely missing a game, and was so excited to watch them win the world series in 2018. Her favorite TV show was Wheel Of Fortune – that she watched every evening with Ronnie. Shirley liked going to and having garage sales – she would even make crafts to sell out of her basement. She enjoyed playing softball and attending her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s events.

Shirley and Ron enjoyed many winters in Arizona – but they always wanted to make sure they could attend their children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and other activities.

Shirley will be greatly missed and be remembered for being a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Shirley passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 26, 2020, at the age of 83 years, she was ready to celebrate her 84th birthday on March 31st. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Donna Sue; her parents and brothers, Robert, Charles and Harold Knutson.

Survivors include her husband, Ron Morgan of Eagle Grove; children: Diane Morgan Storm of Eagle Grove, David Morgan (Deann) of Belmond, Denise Morgan of Eagle Grove and Darci Stuckey (Eric) of Spencer; sister, Sandra Campbell (Robert) of Eagle Grove; grandchildren: Kurt Morgan (Lexi) of Clarion, Daleacia Schechinger (Jason) of Huxley, Zach Stuckey (Megan) of Spencer, Morgan Stuckey of Spencer and Jesse Michael of San Diego, CA; eleven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

The family will have a private family service, but they will plan a Celebration of Shirley’s Life at a later date – when it is safe for people to gather again.
