Daryl "Barney" Dillon
August 27, 1925 ---- March 17, 2020

Daryl "Barney" Paul Dillon, 94, of Hampton, Iowa, died of double pneumonia at MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City on March 17, 2020. He had a good, long life.

Daryl was born on August 27, 1925, to Maurice and Francis Dillon. He graduated from Belmond High School, class of 1943. Daryl was drafted into the United States Navy on October 24, 1943, and served until May of 1946. He was united in marriage to Mildred Wilson on September 27, 1952. Daryl worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company until 1984, retiring after 31 years. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Hampton for the majority of his life.

Daryl loved being with his family and was the 'King of the Grill' at family gatherings. He was an expert at making pancakes and loved sharing his talents with his grandchildren on Sundays after church. Daryl was an avid reader. He loved duck hunting and fishing; even crafting his own lures and sinkers in his basement workshop. He had a big sweet tooth and would hide his chocolate from everyone else. Daryl and Mildred enjoyed travelling when they weren't at their summer home in Guttenberg. He was a true Irishman, enjoying a good joke and Crown Royal Whiskey.

Daryl is survived by his son Tim (Kathy) of Elkader; daughter Debbie McDonald of Connecticut; son Patrick (Dollie) of Hampton; brother Mike of Thornton; nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; as well as many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents Maurice and Francis, wife Mildred, brother Patrick and sister Margaret.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, please consider contributing to food banks or non-profit organizations to help others during this difficult time.

Private family services will be held with burial in the Hampton Cemetery.

IN FOLLOWING THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE CDC AND THE IOWA DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH, SERVICES FOR DARYL DILLON WILL BE PRIVATE.
