Obituary
(By Rev. Fauske)

Edward Hanson was born in Hallingdal, Norway, March 2 [11], 1842, and died at Eagle Grove, Iowa, on August 5, 1933, at the ripe age of 91 years, 4 months and 26 [24} days.

His parents were Hans Hanson Arnegaard and Kari Everson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Hols Lutheran church in Norway. In the year 1864 he was united in marriage to Ambjor Evensdatter Lien and to this union was born four children, three of which are living and one daughter, Gurine Mary [Marie] who died in 1894.

In the year 1869, he with his family, emigrated to America, coming first to Clayton county, Iowa, where they lived for three years. In 1872 the moved by covered wagon from Clayton county to Humboldt county, settling on the prairies west of what is now Eagle Grove. He was one of the first pioneers to settle on the prairies, there bring only a few farmsteads along the Boone river at that time. It was a great relief to the farmers of that community when the C. & N. W. Ry. built their tracks across Wright county and he witnessed with much pleasure the first train pull into the then new town of Eagle Grove Junction.

For almost 40 years he lived on the farm, but in the year 1907 he with his wife moved to Eagle Grove. His first wife died at Eagle Grove, Oct. 8 [25], 1918

In 1922 he was married to Mrs. Gertie Quelland and for five years they made their home in Minneapolis, Minn. In 1927 he again moved to Eagle Grove where he with his wife lived until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Gertie Hanson, Mrs. Julia Christopher and Mrs. Emma H. Johnson, all of Eagle Grove, and his son, Neil Hanson of Kanawha, besides eleven grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren and hosts of friends.

He had a true experience of salvation in Christ Jesus, passing from spiritual death to spiritual life and personal fellowship with God. He was always a faithful member of the Lutheran church and for many years took an active part in all branches of church work, and died with a clear and full confession of his faith in Salvation thru the Blood of Jesus Christ his Saviour.

He was a kind and loving father, a good husband and will be missed by all.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday afternoon by Rev. H. S. Fauske, at the home of the deceased and at the West Side Lutheran church. Interment was made at Rose Hill cemetery.
