J. S. Smith Laid To Rest Friday

Funeral services were held for J. S. Smith at the Baptist church on Friday afternoon. The Rev. I. D. Halvorsen had charge of the service and the burial service was in charge, of the Masonic lodge.

Mr. Smith has been a resident of this community for over 50 years. Failing eye sight caused him to be confined to his home most of the time the past few years.

Obituary
James Smith son of Francis and Eleanor Smith was born at Whitby, Canada, on Feb. 13, 1855, and departed this life at his home in Goldfield, Iowa, on Sept. 19, 1934, aged 79 years, 7 months and 6 days.

In 1881 he came to Tama county and in 1882 he came to Goldfield, Iowa, where with the exception of three years he lived at Holmes, he has since resided. On July 3, 1882, he was married to Miss Jennie B. Stein at Grundy Center, la. To this union were born seven children, three of whom are living. Mr. Smith was a member of the Baptist church of Goldfield and was a faithful member until failing health prevented his attendance. He belonged to the Masonic order and the I. O. O. F. lodge.

He was a kind and loving husband and father and will be sorely missed by the family and a host of friends.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, Mrs. Jennie B. Smith, two daughters, Mrs. Chas. Manby of Ocheyedan, Mrs. Arthur Ferguson, Webster City and one son, James Leonard at home. Three sisters, Mrs. Betsy McLead, Wiarton, Can., Mrs. Sarah LaRa of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Mary Ann Matheson, Goldfield; two brothers, Wesley and Frank Smith of Petrolia, Canada; eight grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
