Gerald (Jerry) Rasmussen, age 85, of rural Hardy, passed away on February 15, 2020 at his home in Journeys at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Gerald Lewis Rasmussen, the son of Howard and Dorothy (Wilson) Rasmussen was born June 23, 1934 in Eagle Grove, Iowa. He attended primary school at Hardy, Iowa and graduated from Vernon Consolidated School in 1952. He worked at a hardware store until he entered the Army in October of 1954. He served in Germany as an Auto Maintenance Helper and a Truck Driver for just shy of two years.

Jerry was united in marriage to Avis Barber on November 16, 1958 at the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg, Iowa. Jerry and Avis were blessed with two sons, Steve Orrin and Kevin Lewis, six grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Jerry and Avis made their home outside of Hardy. They worked, danced, and traveled together for all their 53 years of marriage, the truest example of a farm couple who loved the Lord, the land, and their family. It was very important to Jerry to leave his land as a legacy for those who would farm it behind him, incorporating conservation tillage and progressive farming techniques before this was the norm.

Many of Jerry's friends and his family members have been the recipient of one or more of his numerous wooden creations. He was a prolific scroll saw artist and a talented wood carver. Jerry has made and gifted more than a hundred wooden crosses to friends across the country.

Jerry is survived by his sons Steve (Nancy) of Vancouver, Washington and Kevin (Lisa) of Goldfield, Iowa; six grandchildren, Aaron of Vancouver, WA, James of Seattle, WA, Peter (Amanda) and their children, Lawrence and Genevieve of Vancouver, WA, Joel (Nikki) and their children, Ava and Jill of Goldfield, IA, Adam (Kayla) and their children Owen and Cora of Overland Park, KS, and Sarah of Cambridge, MA; brothers, Donald (Anita) of Webster City, and David (Kay) of New Hampton; and other family and friends. His parents and his wife, Avis, preceded him in death.
