Obituary

Mrs. Mary Knight was born on July 30, 1858 to Frederick and Margaret Kelling in a log cabin near Goldfield, Iowa.

She was the second white child born in Wright county.

She passed away Sept. 2, 1938, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ralph Pletcher in Dayton township, at the age of 80 years, 1 month and 3 days..

She was united in marriage to Robert D. Knight, May 11, 1886, at the home of her parents. They moved to a farm three miles north of Holmes in Lake township. To this union were born one son and four daughters, Fred, Eva, Avis, Ada, and Ruth. Her daughter, Avis, and one brother, Fred, preceded her in death. She is survived by one son, F. J. Knight, Clarion, and three daughters, Mrs. Ralph Pletcher, of Clarion, Mrs. Walter Jones, Goldfield, Mrs. Ernest Forester, Seattle, Washington. Also two brothers and six sisters, besides 17 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

The death of Mrs. Knight removed from the community another pioneer who experienced the hardships connected with the carving out of a new state and who witnessed the development from a broad expanse of prairie to a commonwealth dotted with homes.

She was a faithful and loving mother who will be greatly missed by her children and by her many relatives and friends.

She was buried from the Baptist church at Goldfield. The services were conducted by her pastors, the Rev. and Mrs. J. V. Wright. The interment was in the Goldfield cemetery.
