Robert Wilmer Johnson was born October 11, 1908, at Eagle Grove the son of Wilmer and Maye Franks Johnson. He was educated in Eagle Grove, graduating in the class of 1926. He attended business college in the eastern part of the United States. He lived in Des Moines for two years. He was united in marriage to Helen Nielsen of Eagle Grove November 16, 1936. The couple made their home in the Twin Cities, where he was employed by Travelers Insurance Co for six years, before becoming employed with Mutual Service Insurance of St. Paul, Minn., where he was director of marketing. Robert was employed with Mutual for 20 years, retiring in 1973.

He served with the U. S. Navy in WWII as a member of the See-Bees. Robert was a member of the American Legion, Stillwater, Minn., Moose Lodge, and the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Robert Johnson died at his home in Maplewood, Minn., March 26, 1988, at the age of 79 years, five months, and 15 days. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, in 1979, infant brother, and a grandson, John Kunert. He is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Kunert, son-in-law, Russell Kunert, Stillwater, Minn., grandchildren, Joe and Jeff Kunert, Mahtomedi, Minn., Jenny Kunert, Oakdale, Minn.; Lori Buckley, White Bear Lake, Minn.; Lynn Heyer, Hugo, Minn.; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in North St Paul, Minn., at 10 a.m. March 29 at the Sandberg Mortuary. Services in Eagle Grove were held at 2 p.m. April 2, at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home with the Rev. Paul Schaedig, pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove, officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, with Military Rites at the grave conducted by Eagle Grove Veteran's organizations.
