Irene Lucille (Franke) Ingle, age 98, of Clarksville, Iowa was born the daughter of George and Myrtle (Vestal) Franke, on May 16, 1921, in Powersville, Iowa. She received her education from a rural country school in Floyd County and graduated from the Greene High School in 1940. She taught country school near Packard, Iowa for two years and went to nursing training for a year in Marshalltown, Iowa. She served in the United States Navy from July 1943 to December 1945 as a Pharmacist Mate 2nd class, where she entered the Navy Waves in the Hospital Corp. during World War II for 2 ½ years.

On April 16th, 1946, Irene was united in marriage with William Ingle in Clarion, Iowa. They lived in the Clarksville, Iowa area all their married life with the exception, of the first year, they lived in rural Onward, Indiana, where they lived neighbors to Al Capone. They had three children together. Irene worked several jobs including house cleaning, wallpapering & painting, janitor at Community Church, Iowa State Bank, Orly’s Locker, Clarksville Nursing Home, and retired February 1st, 1988.

Irene was a charter member of the Women’s Memorial (Women in Military Service), charter member of World War II Memorial, Butler County Hall of Fame 2007 and Honor Flight. Irene was a life member of AMVET Auxiliary, Royal Neighbors, Community Nursing Home Auxiliary, and Community Methodist Church. Her volunteer work was at Veterans Hospital, Food Pantry 15 years, Clarksville School 13 years, Nursing Home over 1,000 hours, donated over 1,300 knitted baby caps to 5 local hospitals, 4H leader, assisted with Boys Scouts, and 12 bed sized afghans donated to women’s shelter.

Irene passed away on Monday February 10, 2020, at the Waverly Health Center in Waverly, Iowa, of natural causes. She was preceded in death by husband, Bill on October 11, 2008; parents; two great-grandsons, Elijah & Jacob Greenwald; brother, Eldred Franke; two sisters-in-law, Lavon and Virginia Franke; and son-in-law, Edward Rondthaler.

Irene is survived by one son, Randy Ingle of Clarksville; two daughters, Carolyn Rondthaler of Cedar City, Utah, and Glenda (Red-Randy) Schell of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Bill Greenwald, Dan (Kim) Schell, Becky (Tony) Ferrara, Angie (Kyle) Haack; seven great-grandchildren, Ben and Jacob Greenwald, Hanna Schell, Olivia and Frankie Ferrara, Kennedy and Addison Haack; two step-great-grandchildren, Zachary and Alyssa Ferrara; and two great great-grandchildren Calysta Greenwald & Charlie Johnson; and one brother, Roy Franke of Charles City, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 14th, at the Community Methodist Church with burial in the Lynwood Cemetery both in Clarksville. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 13th, 2020 at the Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Clarksville, (319) 278-4245, and one hour before services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the family.
