Jerald Kenneth Hanson
5 December 1923 --- 1 June 1979

Jerald Kenneth Hanson, son of Albert and Opal Xanders Hanson, passed away Friday morning, June 1, 1979, at the Boone County Hospital. Jerald was born December 5, 1923 at Goldfield. When he was six months of age his mother passed away. Carrie Askvig, Opal's sister, and Lester Askvig became his guardians. Together they raised him as their own son. Jerald attended school in Eagle Grove. On September 26, 1942 he joined the Navy. He was Honorable Discharged on March 19, 1946, after serving three years 5-1/2 months.

Jerald was united in marriage to Mildred Griffin on February 8, 1956 in the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove. To this union were born two children: one son, Nathan and one daughter, Kellie. Jerald worked as a carpenter in Eagle Grove till 1961, when they moved to Newton and he became a barber. In 1963 they moved to Madrid and he barbered there till 1965, when he became temporarily disabled. In 1969 he returned to work as a custodian at Drake University for five years, then went on to work at Woodward State Hospital as a custodian till 1976 when he became disabled and could no longer work.

Preceding Jerald in his death were his parents, Elbert and Opal, and his foster father, Lester. Those who mourn his departure are his wife, one son, Nathan, one daughter, Kellie of Madrid.

Funeral services were held June 4, 1979 at 10:30 a.m. at Kastler-Babcock-DeYoung Funeral Home. Rev. Ira Williams of St. Paul United Church of Christ, Madrid, officiated and burial was in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield.
