N. Neal Samuels
3 May 1922 ---- 2 March 2012N. Neal Samuels, a Scott Valley resident, passed away in Madrone Hospice House in Yreka, California on March 2, 2012.
Neal was born in Humboldt, Iowa on May 3, 1922 to Floyd and Alice Samuels. He graduated from Humboldt High School in 1941 where he was a stand out athlete in both baseball and basketball. He was drafted into the U.S. Army almost immediately and took part in the battles against the Japanese in Quajalein Atoll, Leyte Island and Luzon, earning the bronze star and a field commission. He was an expert marksman and his bravery in battle earned him the rank of sergeant.
After the war, Neal returned home and relocated to Southern California to join his father in the catering business. In 1951 he met his true love, Jacqueline [Fallis], on a blind date and they married in 1952. They raised their children in South Gate, California and enjoyed a loving marriage for 60 years. In retirement Neal and Jacqueline moved to Northern California in order to be closer to their children and enjoy all the benefits of living in the mountains. Neal loved camping in his motor home, Reno trips with Jacqueline, panning for gold in the river behind his house, and a good game of pool. He pretty much ruled the table.
Neal was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Marvetta, infant son, Michael and son, Dr. Thomas W. Samuels, M.D. He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, two sons, Steven Samuels of Iowa and Mark Samuels and his wife, Carole of Laguna Hills.
