Marilyn Van Sickle
February 10, 1938 ---- December 30, 2017

Marilyn C. Van Sickle passed from this life to her Heavenly Father’s home on Saturday, December 30, 2017 in Humboldt, Iowa after a lingering illness.

Marilyn was born on a farm near Thor, Iowa on February 10, 1938 to Mildred June (Brooks) and Raleigh Henry Van Sickle. Her family moved to a farm near Bradgate, where she attended Gilmore City High School and graduated in 1956. Following high school, Marilyn enrolled at Iowa Methodist School of Nursing and earned her Nursing degree in 1959. Marilyn loved the field of nursing and was employed as a private-duty nurse, staff nurse at Lutheran Hospital (Trinity Regional), and a charge nurse at Friendship Haven in Fort Dodge. She retired from nursing in 1988 but continued to serve “God’s older children” by volunteering at North Care Center in Humboldt with her dog Misty.

Marilyn loved serving God and others by being active in Oak Hill Church’s prayer ministry. The desire to encourage and strengthen others continued even after she was no longer able to leave her home by giving copies of Jesus Calling to those who visited or cared for her. She wanted to share with others the peace and joy that comes from a relationship with Jesus Christ.

Marilyn was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She is survived by Donna Ober and Joyce Entgelmeier (Harold) of Humboldt, IA; Ronald Van Sickle of Estherville, IA; nieces Judy, Michelle, and Susan, and nephews Doug, Rick, Bob, Jim, Jeff, and Brian; along with many great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Maxine, brother Richard, niece Carolyn, sister-in-law Joan, and brother-in-law Phil.

Burial of her cremated remains will take place at a later (and warmer) time, per her request, on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Union Cemetery in Humboldt, IA. Memorials may be made to Oak Hill Church in Humboldt.
