Robert Earl Gilbranson was born on December 19, 1920, [1919] at Rolfe, Iowa, the son of Theodore and Minnie Taylor Gilbranson. He moved to Eagle Grove at age 7 where he attended Eagle Grove Schools and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1938. On October 29, 1943, he was united in marriage to Lola Rengstorf at Woolstock. He served in the United States Army from 1942 until 1945 and the Iowa National Guard for 18 years. He was employed by the City of Eagle Grove for 34 years, the last 12 years as Superintendent of Public Works. He retired in 1982.

He was a member of ML Calvary Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove, V. F. W. Post #642 and the American Legion Post #304 in Eagle Grove.

Robert Earl Gilbranson died at the Hamilton County Public Hospital on Friday, May 24, 1996, at the age of 76 years.

Survivors include his wife, Lola; one daughter, Linda Burras and husband Carl of Eagle Grove; and one sister, Mrs. Robert (Betty) Keister of Sacramento, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Jerry Duncan.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 29, 1996, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove at 10 a.m. with the Reverend Neil E. Hayen officiating. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Willim Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
