Marion Charles Baker, the son of Charles M. and Emma Nelson Baker, was born on April 16, 1904 in Estherville, Iowa. He attended school in Pipestone, Minn. and Eagle Grove, Iowa. He was married to Carol Durham of Clarion and to this union were born three sons, Earl, Glenn and Marvin. Later, he was married to Elizabeth Just of Rowan, Iowa and to this union was born one daughter, Diane. During his life, Marion worked for Wright County and operated a road grader. Later, he operated a restaurant in Fort Dodge and also in Rowan, Iowa. He was employed by Wilson and Company for 30 years as a refrigerator and boiler man.
He is survived by three sons, Earl Baker, who is in the armed services and stationed in California; Glenn Baker of Martinez, Georgia; Marvin Baker of Alexander, Iowa; a daughter, Diane, Mrs. Bennie Bell of Jefferson, Tex.; a step-son, Edward Heslop of Cortex, Colo.; two step-daughters, Sandra Nine of Sedalia, Mo. and Judy Jennings of Eagle Grove; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; five step-step-grandchildren and four nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Irvin and James. Mr. Baker died on Wednesday, June 22, 1983 at St. Joseph Hospital in Park Rapids, Minn.
Funeral services for Marion C. Baker were held on Monday, June 27, 1983 at 10:30 a.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Rev. Paul Schaedig, pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation was held on Sunday at the funeral home.
