Lewis Andrew Nelson, son of George M. and Mary Leffler, was born June 19, 1917, in Goldfield, Iowa. He lived in the Evergreen Community on the farm near Goldfield. He attended Elmwood Country School, graduated from Goldfield High School with the class of 1934 and attended Iowa State University majoring in Animal Husbandry and was a member of the Poultry Judging Team. He served in the U. S. Army from 1942 until he was honorably discharged in 1946. On April 22, 1944, he married Margaret Lyons at Ft. Snelling, Minn. He was a Legionnaire, a member of the Oakridge Recreation and past president of the Goldfield PTA, Evergreen Sporting Association, Lions club and Iowa Donkey and Mule Society. He was baptized in the United Presbyterian Church of Goldfield where he taught Sunday School and served as trustee and usher. He farmed the home farm until 1979 when he retired.

Lewis A. Nelson died Saturday, May 11, 1996 in Salem, Oregon, at the home of his daughter, Regina.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret, Goldfield, 3 daughters, Pamela Lyons Nelson, Salem Ore., Jacquelyn and husband, John Wilcox, Victoria, B. C. Canada, and Regina and husband, Steven Lackett-Nelson, Salem, Ore., 4 grandchildren, one sister Mary and her husband Kenneth Axon, Goldfield, one brother Winston and his wife, Virginia Nelson, Sierra Vista, Ariz., and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, George Jr. and an infant sister Ruth.

Memorial services were held at Trinity Covenant Church in Salem, Oregon on Tuesday, May 14, 1996 and at Untied Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, Iowa, on Saturday, May 18, 1996, with the Reverend Ellen G. Brantley officiating. Inurnment was at Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield.

Willim Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
