Death of Mrs. Garvey

The "grim messenger" has again entered this community and called to a better world another estimable woman, Mrs. Mary A. Shaver Garvey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Shaver, of Elmore, Minn., and wife of Engineer Frank Garvey, of the C. & N. W. Ry., died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Stowe, on Johnson st. this city, Monday, Sept. 16h, at 7:30 a. m., of pneumonia complicated with Endocarditis.

The deceased was a native of Canada. Was born July 19th 1861. Moved to Illinois with her parents, and thence to Elmore, Minn. Sept. 8th, 1885, she was married to Mr. Garvey at Blue Earth, Minn., and they came to Eagle Grove to begin housekeeping. Here they lived until about two years ago when they moved to Elmore. She had been quite sick for a number of weeks, and that better medical assistance might be had, Mrs. Garvey came here temporarily, but her recovery was not to be, and on Monday she passed away, surrounded by her friends and relatives, and with the respect of the entire community.

Mrs. Garvey was the mother of four children—a son 8 years, a younger daughter, and twin babes aged 4 months. It is a sad family today with mamma away, and the husband and little ones have the profound sympathy of all.

The funeral ceremonies were conducted by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, assisted by the Ladies' Auxiliary, at the Baptist church, at 2 p. m., on Wednesday. Rev. J. W. Southwell preached the discourse and the remains were laid to rest at Rose Hill.

The following relatives and friends attended Mrs. Garvey's funeral: Peter Shaver, Ed. Shaver, Wesley Shaver, John Shaver and wife, Wm. Shaver and wife, Ida Shaver, and John Hellman and wife, all of Elmore; Mr. Hanson and wife and Timothy Garvey and wife, of Gowrie; Mrs. Peter Elpson, of Tama.
