Otto Willard Hanson
21 March 1915 --- 20 August 1983

Otto Willard Hanson was born March 21, 1915, in Wright County, Iowa, near Kanawha, the son of Ole C. and Mabel Larson Hanson. He was educated in rural Kanawha and Dows schools.

Otto was employed as a truck driver for a few years, until becoming employed by the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad in 1943. He retired from this employment in 1960 and was an engineer at that time.

He was united in marriage to Ruth Rink of Eagle Grove, on Feb. 11, 1939 at Hampton, Iowa, in the Methodist parsonage. The couple returned to Eagle Grove to make their home.

Ruth and Otto became the parents of four children, three of whom survive him; sons - Stephen Hanson, Osceola; Willard Dean Hanson, Adel; and daughter, Barbara Hamilton, Denver, Colo.

Otto had been in ill health since May of this year and had been in the Clarion Care Center since Monday, Aug. 15. He died there on Saturday at the age of 68 years, four months, and 29 days.

He is survived by his wife Ruth; three children; four brothers, Albin Hanson, Oquawka, HI.; Harley Hanson, Paris, Maine; Lester Hanson, Goldfield; and Morris Larson, Des Moines. Also, seven granddaughters and two great granddaughters, and one great grandson. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Marjorie Lynn.

Otto was a member of the United Church of Christ, Eagle Grove, and the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 22, 1983, at the United Church of Christ, Eagle Grove. The Rev. Kenneth Reiter officiated, and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove, Iowa.
