Well Known Goldfield Man J. Clausen Dies
James Arthur Clausen, 49, died Sunday afternoon at Clarion Community Memorial hospital where he had been a medical patient since Tuesday. Chief of Police in Goldfield for four years he had been in failing health for some time.
Funeral services were held at 2 p. m. Wednesday at the Methodist Church with the Rev. Benjamin R. Price officiating. Burial was in Glenwood Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion. The Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home, Eagle Grove, had charge of arrangements.
Surviving are his wife, June; a daughter, Mrs. Jay Hanson, Stanhope; two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Jack Perry, Manhattan Beach, Calif.; and his stepmother, Mrs. Nellie Clausen, Goldfield.
Mr. Clausen was born in Humboldt County, graduating from Goldfield High School in 1934. From 1934 to 1938 he served with the U. S. Navy and after his discharge was an employee of the Civil Aeronautics Administration. In 1940 he married June Smith of Eagle Grove. He was recalled to Naval Service during World War II. Following his discharge in 1946, he returned to Goldfield where he worked with his late father, Fritz M. Clausen, as an electrician. Before his retirement in 1966 because of ill health, he was chief of police at Goldfield for four years. Mr. Clausen was a member of the Methodist Church and the American Legion.
