Obituary
(By Rev. T. J. Severtson)

Carrie Bly was born to parents, Ole and Martha Bly at Ullensvang, Hardanger, Norway, Nov. 16, 1855, and died at Eagle Grove, Iowa, Nov. 14, 1930, age 74 years, 11 months and 29 days.

She was baptized into Christ, instructed in Christian faith and confessed her faith by confirmation in her home church of the Ullensvang parish in Hardanger. She came to the United States in 1872 to Illinois.

She was married to Andrew Lawson at Rochelle, Ill., Sept. 2, 1879. Mr. and Mrs. Lawson lived for some years at Ellsworth, Iowa, coming to Eagle Grove in 1909 where they have since lived and where Mr. Lawson passed away from this life Dec. 28, 1920.

Mrs. Lawson has been of poor health for many years, suffering a great deal at times, but she bore her sufferings patiently, finding strength in her Saviour, Jesus Christ. It has been our privilege to minister to her spiritual wants for thirteen years. At times she would ask us, “Are you ever tempted to give up your faith in Jesus?" Yes, we told her, at times very much tempted. "I am too," she said, "But I pray God to keep me and not let me doubt His promises. Then I get strength to keep on believing in Him." The day before she died we had a short devotion with her and she said: "I wish you would, pray that God would take me home to Him now."

She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Lloyd Meyers, Des Moines; Mrs. J.H. Schueller, Eagle Grove; Mrs. Harry Roach, Eagle Grove; Mrs. Anton Schultz, Clarion; Mrs. Frank Boggs, Clarion; Mrs. Fred Gates, Nevada; Mrs. Fred Hobus, Shelby, Ia.; Gilbert Lawson and Ben Lawson, Ft. Dodge, and Lewis Lawson of Eagle Grove. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and one brother, Peter Bly of Clear Lake.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the home and the Eagle Grove Lutheran church. Burial was made in the Rose Hill cemetery.
