Melvin Charles O'Connor
December 23, 1911 --- January 21, 1991

Melvin O'Connor, 87, of Manning, a former Webster City resident, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999 at the Manning Health Care Center. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church with Gerald Caquelin and Rev. Brian Carter officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home in Webster City from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and at the church from 8:30 a.m. until service time.

Melvin Charles O'Connor, son of Charley and Mabel Segar O'Connor, was born Dec. 23, 1911 on a farm in Cass Township. He attended White Fox rural school and attended Webster City High School. On March 24, 1936 he married Mary Parrish at Webster City. The couple farmed in Cass Township for three years and east of Eagle Grove for seven years, then moved to a farm west of Webster City for 10 years. They moved to Webster City where he was a custodian at Sunset School for 18 years retiring in 1976. Being semi-retired, he drove school bus until 1987, when they moved to Rodgers, AR. They moved to Manning in 1992.

Survivors include his wife, Mary, son and daughter-in-law, Duane and Esther O'Connor, Rodgers, daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Bill Mills of Manning, grandchildren, Kelly Chalfant, Karol Dammann, Scott Mills and Melissa Keller; five great-grandchildren, sisters, Evelyn Brown and Norma Wilson of Webster City; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Violet O'Connor and Doris Tapper, and brother Marion O'Connor.

He was a member of the Manning United Methodist Church, and former member of the Faith United Methodist Church.
