P. M. Laux Passes Away.

On Feb. 14th, at 8:50 a. m. P. M. Laux passed away at his home. He had been sick for some time, but the end was not expected so soon, and the news came as a sudden shock to his many friends.

Peter Martin Laux was born on a farm near Dunkirk, New York, Sept. 8 [9], 1855. He spent his early boyhood there, but came to Iowa, and was married at Burlington. Ia., Feb. 11 [12], 1877 to Miss Georgia Mayer [Moyer] of that place. Seven children were born to them, three of whom survive—Bert, Harry and Ruth. Two of them passed away in Eagle Grove, their oldest daughter, Mrs. Geo D. Srigley, dying June 25th, 1905, and their son, Wesley Leland on Oct. 21st, l902.

Mr. Laux started telegraphy at 16 years of age, and had been in the service of the railroads from that time, until about 2 years ago. Two sisters besides his wife and children survive him, Mrs. Maggie Mathis of Wintoon [Winnetoon], Nebr., and Mrs. J. N. Smith of Woonsocket, So. Dak. On account of sickness, Mrs. Smith was unable to attend the services but those from out of town who were present were Mrs. Maggie Mathis, his sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Gravatte of Waterloo, his niece, Mrs. Albert Richardson of Council Bluffs, his sister-in-law. His sister-in-law, Miss Grace Evans of this city was also present.

The services were held from the Episcopal church, Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Drake of Fort Dodge, officiating, and tbe remains were interred in Rose Hill cemetery. The sympathy of all is extended to the mourning family, who have sustained the loss of such an excellent man and father.

Death of Peter Martin Laux

After an illness of varying severity of three years duration Mr. Laux died at his home in this city last Sunday morning at 8:50 o'clock.

He was conscious to the last and the end was anticipated by himself and his family. He was afflicted with dropsy resulting from diabetes, which persistently resisted the best medical skill.

Mr. Laux was born at Dunkirk, N Y., Sept. 8 [9], 1855, and Feb. 11 [12], 1877, was married to Miss Georgia Meyer [Moyer] at Burlington, Ia. Mrs. Laux and three children survive to mourn his death. The children are Bert, Harvey and Ruth, all of this city.

Mr. Laux was born on a farm but began railroading when only sixteen years of age and has been a member of the railway orders of the O. R. C. and T. D A.

About eleven years ago he came to Eagle Grove from Omaha and became a train dispatcher in the office here which service he continued until ill health compelled him to retire from it three years ago.

One sister was present at the funeral, Mrs. Marguerite Mathis of Winatoon [Winnetoon], Nebr. and Mrs. Albert Richardson of Council Bluffs, was present sister-in-law, Mrs. J. N. Smith of Woonsocket, S. D., a sister was unable to be present on account of sickness. Mrs. J. J. Gravatte a niece was present, from Waterloo.

The funeral was held in the Episcopal church Tuesday at 2:30 p. m. and the services were conducted by Rev. F. E. Drake of Ft. Dodge. The floral tributes were many and beautiful.

The deceased had been a member of the Episcopal church for many years. The interment was in the Rose Hill cemetery.

The bereaved family has the warm sympathy of the entire community in this great affliction.
