Bernard L. Trotter, of Urbandale, Iowa, formerly of Eagle Grove and Goldfield, Iowa, died on Tuesday, January 14, 2003, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 81.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Anna, Urbandale; two sons, Terry L. Trotter, and wife, Marvel K., Worthington, Minn., and William L. Trotter, Urbandale; two grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two sisters, Lucille Duitscher, Clarion, Iowa, and Bette Christensen, and husband, Jerry, Goldfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Bernard Lyle Trotter was born the son of Glen Lyle and Bessie Ruth McCutcheon Trotter on July 23, 1921, in Goldfield. He was a graduate of Goldfield High School. He married Anna H. Ogland on September 19, 1942, at Eagle Grove. He was a farmer during early life and then, with his wife, managed the Urban Green Apartments, in Urbandale, retiring in 1986. He had lived in Eagle Grove for 18 years, and Goldfield for 26 years before moving to Urbandale 37 years ago on April 1, 1966. He was a lifetime member of the United Presbyterian Church, at Goldfield where he served on the board of trustees, and was a former director of Northwest Iowa Hereford Association.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 18, 2003, 11:30 a.m., at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield with Reverend Ellen Brantley officiating. Burial was held in Glenwood Cemetery at Goldfield. Westover Funeral Home of Des Moines was in charge of arrangements.

Bernard Lyle Trotter, 81, of the 7700 block of Hickman Road, Urbandale, died of a respiratory ailment Tuesday at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, of which he was a member. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery there. Mr. Trotter was born in Goldfield and had lived there 26 years and in Eagle Grove 18 years before moving to Urbandale 37 years ago. He was a farmer and the manager of Urban Green Apartments in Urbandale before retiring. He had been active with the Northwest Iowa Hereford Association and was an avid fisherman and sports fan.
He is survived by his wife, Anna, two sons, Terry of Worthington, Minn., and William of Urbandale two sisters, Lucille Duitscher of Clarion and Bette Christensen of Goldfield, two grandchildren and a great-grandchild. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Westover Funeral Home. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the time of services Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to his church, the American Lung Association or the American Heart Association.
