Robert “Bob” Hugh Wehrheim
May 11, 1929 ---- September 11, 2019

McCOOK, Neb. — Robert “Bob” Hugh Wehrheim, age 90, of McCook, passed away at the Kearney Regional Hospital on Sept. 11, 2019.

He was born on May 11, 1929, as one in a set of twins to Michael and Gertrude (Bechal) [Bachel] Wehrheim. Bob attended and graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1948. He attended Junior College and later followed his brother in joining the Unites States Marine Corps. During high school he joined the wrestling team and continued the sport in the Marine Corps, until he was stationed in Korea. Bob served from June of 1948 until June of 1952 and was Honorably Discharged.

Bob started his surveyor career with the state of Nevada as an engineers aide and later surveyed during the construction of the Glen Canyon dam. He moved to Denver in the early 1970s and signed up with a surveying broker that sent him to multiple surveying projects that included: Enewetak Atoll during the nuclear testing; Marshall Islands; Christmas Island; Iran; Venezuela; and Zaire, Africa, culminating with the Denver Water Board as an instrument man for 20 years, retiring in 1996.

He met and married Carlyn Naas in 1983 and inherited three sons as his own.

Bob was an avid fisherman and followed Iowa high school and college wrestling and football and loved to talk Iowa State and Eagle Grove wrestling. He enjoyed Husker football unless it was against his Iowa State Hawkeyes. His NFL choice was the Denver Broncos.

Bob was a lifetime member of the VFW Post No. 417 of Golden, Colo., later joining the VFW Post 1652 of McCook. He made many friends throughout his life, staying in contact with surveying buddies and others whom he met in his travels. He will be sorely missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant twin, Virginia; siblings: Jack Wehrheim, Eilene Wehrheim, George Wehrheim, Connie Wehrheim, Margaret Jones and stepson, Dylan James Wehrheim.

Bob is survived by his wife, Carlyn of McCook; two sons, Kevin and wife, Amy LaVante of North Platte, Neb., and Brendan Coffey of Seattle, Wash.; five grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Rosary for Bob will be Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019, at 7 p.m., at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel. Memorial services will be on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2019, 10:30 a.m., at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel with Father Andrew Litt.

Inurnment will be 2 p.m., in the Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell, Neb., with Military Honors by the U.S. Marine Corps. Memorials may be addressed to the McCook Humane Society and left at the Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel. Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel entrusted with arrangements.
