Obituary of Mrs. MacNaughton

Sara E. MacNaughton was born Sept. 3, 1841, at Friendship, N. Y., and died at the home of her son, Dr. L. D. MacNaughton, in this city Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the age of 92 years, 4 months and 13 days. At the age of 20 she came west and accepted a position as teacher in the Wisconsin State Reform School at Waukesha. While teaching there she met and married William MacNaughton, who was an instructor in the same school. They were married in 1867 and started their home on a prairie farm near Charles City, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Dr. L. D. MacNaughton of this city and Mrs. Grace Nauman of Waterloo, who died in October 1933. Four grandchildren also survive. They are Laura Armbruster, Oelwein; Merryl MacNaughton, Eagle Grove and James and Graydon Nauman of Waterloo. Mrs. MacNaughton joined the Baptist church at Charles City when she was a young woman, and has been a faithful member of that church all these years, always ready to do her share of the church work.

For the past 10 years she has made her home with her son in this city and for the past four years has been bed-ridden because of a fall in which, she sustained a fractured hip. At her son's home she received every possible care and no human comfort was denied her.

Funeral services were held at the home at 9:30 last Thursday morning with the Rev. J. G. Eaton in charge. Burial took place at Charles City in the family lot.

The sincere sympathy of the entire community is extended the bereaved relatives.
