Mrs. Grace McVicker funeral held Monday afternoon

Funeral services for Mrs. Grace McVicker, 76, were held Monday afternoon at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home in charge of Rev. Donald Forbes, pastor of the First Methodist Church. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery. Mrs. McVicker died Friday at Mercy Hospital, Fort Dodge, where she had been a patient for a day.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Malcolm Shell of Memphis, Tenn.; and Miss Beverly McVicker, secretary in the City Clerk's office, who resided with her mother and had taken care of her for many years and two grandchildren.

Mrs. McVicker, the former Grace Schaeffer, was a life long resident of Eagle Grove, and at one time operated a grocery store with her brother, the late Verne Schaeffer, on East 3rd Street.

She had been an invalid since 1958 and confined to her home.

OBITUARY

Grace Leola Schaeffer was born December 1, 1894, at Eagle Grove, the daughter of Charles and Mary Martha Wade Schaeffer.

She attended school in Eagle Grove, lived in Georgia for two years, then returned to Eagle Grove to make her home.

She was united in marriage to Wylie McVicker in July of 1917. They lived in Mason City for a time before moving to Eagle Grove to make their home.

She operated a grocery store with her brother, Verne Schaeffer, until 1951. She has been in ill health since 1951, and has been an invalid since 1958.

She was taken to the Mercy Hospital, Ft. Dodge, January 6 and passed away there on Friday, January 8, at the age of 76 years, 1 month and 5 days.

Mrs. McVicker was a member of the United Methodist Church of Eagle Grove, and the church circle. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbors.

She is survived by two daughters: Dorothy, Mrs. Malcolm Snell, Memphis, Tenn.; and Beverly McVicker, Eagle Grove. Also surviving are two grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, an infant daughter, one sister and five brothers. Mr. McVicker died in 1962.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 11 at 3 p.m. in the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home. Rev. Donald Forbes of the United Methodist Church, Eagle Grove, officiated and burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Eagle Grove.
