Death of Willie J. McDermott.

Death truly loves a shining mark and Willie J. McDermott, aged 4 years, 5 months and 24 days, the beloved son of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. McDermott, was its latest victim. Little Willie was taken with diphtheria a little over a month ago, which resulted in heart failure and ended his life. All that medical assistance and loving hands could do were lavished upon him and for a time he seemed to grow better; but alas, the spark of hope was so soon to be extinguished and the little sufferer passed to the bright realms above Sunday morning at about 5 o'clock. The burial occurred the same afternoon and was conducted by Father Garland.

Willie was born at Wall Lake, Iowa, April 19th, 1891, but most of his tender life was spent in this city beloved by all with whom he came in contact—for his bright and manly ways wreathed garlands of love around the hearts of all. No more will the patter of those childish feet and the prattle of that little tongue cheer and make sacred that stricken home. Perhaps it is best that he should be called to that home not made with hands ere the stern ambitions and trials of manhood were crowded upon him—for he is now safe in the arms of He who doeth all things well. May his bed be as soft and his awakening as grand as his heart was pure is the prayer of the legion of sympathizing friends.

***

We wish to extend our sincere and heartfelt thanks to our friends who rendered such valuable and timely assistance during the sickness of our children and the burial of little Willie. We wish to especially thank Father Garland for his great kindness and care during our affliction. Also Supt. H. M. Hughes for his kindness and forethought in sending a special coach to Ames after us, while visiting relatives at Missouri Valley, so that we could reach our sick ones sooner. May the God of all mankind bless and protect you.
