Christopher Henry McDermott, son of James and Elizabeth Nergirg [Neugirg] McDermott, was born June 5, 1903, at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He attended school at Sacred Heart Elementary, Eagle Grove.
On November 4, 1924, he was united in marriage with Mary Agnes Clark of Belmond, at Eagle Grove. They lived in Mason City and Fort Dodge for a short time. Since then, they resided in Eagle Grove where he was a conductor-brakeman for Chicago-Northwestern Railroad for many years.
Chris was a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, Senior Citizens, and the Knights of Columbus.
Chris, died Friday, October 6, 1978, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn., at the age of 75.
Preceding him in death were his parents; one son, Jack; a brother, John; and infant twin sisters.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Agnes; two sons, Richard of Waterloo and Joseph of Webster City; two daughters, Donna Jean: Mrs. (Forrest) Zody of Houston, Tex. and Colleen (Mrs. Jimmie O.) Johnson of Lake Cornelia; one brother, Lawrence of Humboldt; four sisters, Josephine Mahncke of Eagle Grove, Mary McDermott of Des Moines, Margaret Sprengelmever of Belmont, Calif., and Mildred Bradley of Armstrong; 19 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 9, 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eagle Grove. Rev. Norman White officiated and burial was at Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove.
