Ray Pearl Cooper, 92, of Cambridge passed away on Monday, August 26, 2019 at the St. Cloud Hospital.

He was born July 24, 1927 in Castor, Louisiana to James and Pearl (Myrick) Cooper. Ray served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and in the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict. He was wounded in Korea and received the Purple Heart and was also a Prisoner of War. He was honorably discharged from the Army on January 31, 1954 at the US Army Hospital in Fort Hood, Texas.

Ray is survived by his children Robert (Carla) Cooper of Bridgman, Michigan, Kelly (Michael) Whyte of Missouri, Kirby (Catherine) Cooper of North Carolina, Blaine (Nancy) Cooper of Harris, James Edward (Shannon) Cooper of North Dakota, 16 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, brother Ralph (Roberta) Cooper of South Carolina, as well as other relatives and friends.

A Private family graveside service will be held at a later date at Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove, Iowa.

Ray Cooper, 92, Goldfield

Ray Pearl Cooper, 92, of St. Cloud, formerly of Goldfield, Iowa, passed away on Monday August 26, 2019 at the St. Cloud Hospital surrounded by family. He was born on July 24, 1927 in Castor, Louisiana to James and Pearl (Myrick) Cooper. Ray served in the U.S. Navy in World War II and was honorably discharged April 14, 1946. He then moved to Eagle Grove, IA where he later reenlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves and was sent to fight in the Korean Conflict. He was wounded in Korea receiving the Purple Heart and after being captured, spending almost three years as a Prisoner of War. He was honorably discharged from the Army on January 31, 1954 at US Army Hospital in Fort Hood, Texas.

Ray is survived by his children Robert (Carla) Cooper of Bridgeman, MI, Kelly (Michael) Whyte of Lone Jack, MO, Kirby (Catharine) Cooper of Gibsonville, NC, Blaine (Nancy) Cooper of Harris, MN, James (Shannon) Cooper of Huron, SD, 16 grandchildren, and 8 great grandchildren. He has a brother Ralph (Roberta) Cooper of South Carolina as well as other relatives.

A Celebration of Ray’s life will be held on October 11, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Goldfield, IA at 11:00 AM with his interment at Rose Hill Cemetery in Eagle Grove at 2:00 p.m.
