S. LOUGHLIN DEAD – BURIED MONDAY

Former Eagle Grove Resident Died Suddenly in Los Angeles of Heart Ailment.

Stephen W. Loughlin died at his home in Los Angeles, Wednesday, Dec. 22, 1926. He was stricken while at work in a cloak and suit store and died within a few minutes after reaching his home. His son Dr. Merlin Loughlin, who is practicing dentistry in Los Angeles, was notified of his father’s illness and reached him a few moments before he died. The remains were brought to Eagle Grove for burial. Funeral services were held in Sacred Heart church Monday morning with Father Nolan in charge. He was assisted by Father John W. Howell, Father Thomas Mulligan and Father Thos. O’Toole. The remains were laid to rest in Calvary cemetery by the side of his wife who died July 23, 1922, and his daughter who passed away in 1917. About three years ago Mr. Loughlin moved to California where the boys completed their education.

Mr. Loughlin is survived by his two sons, Dr. Merlin Loughlin and Francis Loughlin, both of Los Angeles.

Obituary

Stephen Warren Loughlin was born at Ackley, Iowa, July 8, 1856 [1868]. He moved to Eagle Grove about the time of his marriage to Miss Mary Schumacher, Nov. 12, 1895. To this union were born three children. Mary died Aug. 20, 1917, Dr. Merlin is practicing dentistry in Los Angeles and Francis is operating a drug store in a Los Angeles suburb. Mr. Loughlin is also survived by two sisters Bridget Loughlin of Los Angeles and Mrs. Mary Burke of Sioux City. Mrs. Burke and daughters Ellen and Clara attended the funeral. Others from out of town were Mrs. McGuire of Iowa City, Miss Loretta Loughlin of Chicago, James McGrail of Ackley, Iowa.

The sympathy of all is extended the bereaved relatives.
