August 23, 1947 ---- July 20, 2019
Linda Sue Teigen departed this life on July 20 at Oaklawn Nursing Home in Mankato. She was born August 23, 1947 in Belmond, Iowa to Donald and Marjorie, nee Johnson, Sheriff. She was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church on October 9, 1947 by Pastor O. M. Seveseike. While Linda was growing up, her father farmed with his father and brother near Belmond and Goodell, Iowa, and later on farmed near Thornton, and Meservey, Iowa.
Linda was confirmed in 1960 by Pastor John Moldstad, Sr. After graduating from high school in Sheffield, Iowa, she attended the University of Iowa and Hamilton Business College. She worked as a secretary in San Francisco, Mason City, Iowa, Minneapolis, Minnesota and later after her marriage in Mankato. Her last regular employment as a secretary was at Mt. Olive from 1977-1982.
Linda was united in marriage to Pastor Erling T. Teigen, April 27, 1974 at Thornton, Iowa. They lived in the parsonage of Heritage Lutheran Church in Apple Valley, Minnesota until 1977, when Erling was called to serve on the faculty of Bethany Lutheran College.
Linda was preceded in death by her father, Donald ("Red") Sheriff. She is survived by her husband, her mother Marjorie, brothers Jeffrey (Marva), Champlin, Minnesota; Timothy (Judy), Duluth, Minnesota; Gregory (Belva), Mason City, Iowa, and sister Sandra Marken, Waterloo, Iowa, and by many nieces and nephews.
Linda was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 1982, and in the following years had several exacerbations which hospitalized her. In the early years of her illness, she was an active hospice volunteer. She fell and broke her leg in 2003, after which her mobility gradually decreased until she was restricted to a wheelchair. Until that time, she remained as active as her health permitted. From 2012 to 2015, she was hospitalized for complications from the MS, and since that time was bedridden. Through all her illness, Linda cheerfully accepted her burden without complaint, and patiently waited for the time her Lord would call her home.
The family thanks the pastors of Mt Olive, the Adara Home Health Service and the many Health Aides and nurses who have assisted with Linda's care. Special thanks to the Bethany students and Mt. Olive young people who have so faithfully helped care for Linda the past few years.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at Trinity Chapel at Bethany College. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services. Interment will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Woodland Hills Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements. Memorials are preferred to Mt. Olive Lutheran School, Bethany Lutheran College Scholarships, or donor's choice.
