Maurice Chelesvig funeral Tuesday

Maurice Chelesvig, 44, of Belmond, former Eagle Grove resident, died Friday in the Belmond Hospital, following a prolonged illness.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the United Methodist Church, Belmond, in charge of Rev. Dick Watkins. Interment was in the Belmond Cemetery.

Mr. Chelesvig is survived by his wife, three children, Jeffrey, Brad and Kimberly, at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Chelesvig of Eagle Grove. Other survivors are three sisters: Mrs. Kenneth Gangestad of Atlantic, Mrs. Jerry Helmick of Grundy Center, Miss Julie Chelesvig of Des Moines; four brothers: Tom of Webster City; Charles of Eagle Grove; Joe of Boulder, Colo.; and James of Belmond. He was preceded in death by a son Michael.

Chelesvig was born Dec. 24, 1930 in Eagle Grove. He was graduated from the Eagle Grove High School in 1949 and served with the United States Army from 1952 to 1954. Miss Joyce Hosselton and Maurice Chelesvig were married Jan. 2, 1955 and they farmed four years near Clarion and 18 years near Eagle Grove. In 1973 Mr. and Mrs. Chelesvig purchased the Belmond Furniture Store. While in Eagle Grove Chelesvig was a member of the United Methodist Church, was a past commander of Clarence Shurtz Post of the American Legion and past president of the Wright County Extension Council.

Many former schoolmates, long time friends and neighbors went to Belmond for the funeral and members of Clarence Shurtz Post took part in the military rites.
