Bert Rolland died at his home on North Wright Street on Saturday evening, Nov. 19. Since 1902 Mr. Rolland was a faithful employee of the Northwestern until laid off two years ago. Mr. Rolland was a pleasant man to meet and was well liked by his associates. He performed each task well and was ready for the end when it came. The following obituary was prepared and read at the funeral service by his pastor:

Bertine Andersen Rolland was born to Anders and Martha Rolland December 30, 1876 at Arne, Bergen, Norway, and died in his home on North Wright avenue, Eagle Grove, Iowa, November 19, 1932, aged 55 years, 10 months and 20 days.

He was baptized into Christ Jesus March 29th, 1877, received instruction and confessed his christian faith April 5th, 1891. The years of his youth were spent in his home community at Arne. On May 7, 1897, he was united in marriage to Miss Bertha Johanneson Kvamme and in 1902 they emigrated to America coming to Eagle Grove, where they have lived continuously until Mr. Rolland passed away.

Mr. Rolland entered the service of the C. & N. W. R. R. in the fall of 1902 and continued in the same employment until about two years ago when he was laid off from work. He united with the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church in January, 1906. He was an honest and industrious man, faithful in all things even to the least, a kind husband and neighbor.

In the early summer of this year Mr. Rolland’s health began to fail and he consulted medical help. He spent several weeks at Rochester, Minn., but received no help. God had numbered his days. He experienced personal salvation now during his last illness and found peace with God thru the forgiveness of sins by faith in Jesus Christ.

He is survive by his wife, one sister, Mrs. Marie Kaiser of Rolfe, Iowa, and two brothers, Knut and Andrew Rolland, both of Eagle Grove.

Funeral services were Tuesday afternoon from the home at 1:30; from the Eagle Grove Evangelical Lutheran church at 2 o’clock, with burial at Rose Hill cemetery.
