Mary Elizabeth McDermott passed away in her home in Des Moines early Tuesday morning, August 14, 1979, at the age of 78 years.

Mary was born March 24, 1901, to James and Elizabeth Newgirg McDermott in Eagle Grove. She
received her schooling in the Sacred Heart School and graduated valedictorian of her class. A short
time after she graduated she came down with a sleeping sickness which left her disabled for the rest of her life. Mary lived around Eagle Grove until about 20 years ago when she moved to a private home in Des Moines.

Those who mourn her departure are one brother, Lawrence McDermott, Humboldt; three sisters:
Josephine Mahncke and Mildred Bradley, Armstrong; Margaret Spengelmeyer, Belmount, Calif. Preceding her in death were her parents and two infant brothers and two older brothers, John and Chris.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Aug. 16, 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church. Father Norman White officiated with interment in Calvary Cemetery. Rosary was held at 7 p.m. Wednesday,
Aug. 15, at Kastler-Babcock-DeYoung Funeral Home.
