Bertie Lou French, the daughter of Waymon and Carrie McCoy Fields, was born at Fort Mill, S.C. on September 13, 1929. She grew up and received her education in South Carolina. Later, she was married and lived in Des Moines, Iowa for several years and in 1970, she and her family moved to Eagle Grove. For the past eight years, she has been employed at the Dodger Mfg. Co. in Eagle Grove.

She became ill and was taken to the hospital in Fort Dodge and later was transferred to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines for a heart condition. She died early Wednesday morning, March 5, 1986, at the Mercy Hospital in Des Moines at the age of 56 years, five months and 22 days.

She is survived by her children, Sondra Michaels of Graham, N.C.: Chuck Harper of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; Jack Fields of Des Moines; Kim Woodall of Eagle Grove; Alice McBroom of Eagle Grove; DeeDee McBroom of Eagle Grove; a grandson, Justin Woodall of Eagle Grove; five sisters, Doris F. Bell of Rock Hill, S.C., Janie F. Collins of Fort Mill, S.C., Frances G. Brown of Des Moines, Vickie Vajdic of Gladstone, Mo., Diane Brewer of Seneca, S.C.; two brothers, William F. Fields of Laurinburg, N.C. and Harold L. Fields of Myrtle Beach, S.C. and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and a granddaughter.

Funeral services for Bertie L. French, 56, of Eagle Grove, were held on Saturday, March 8, 1986 at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove, Iowa. Rev. Scott C. Hall, church pastor officiated and burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove. Visitation was held on Friday at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
