J. A. Simser, who recently severed his connection with the telephone company at this place after nearly a quarter of a century of service, died at his home Wednesday evening after an illness of a little over a week.

Mr. Simser and his son, Aloys, purchased the B. & L. Cafe from Boyd Michaelson three weeks ago and Mr. Simser put in his last day with the telephone company on November 15. He had worked in the cafe only a few days when he was taken ill with flu which developed into pneumonia which, with complications, caused his death.

Jay A. Simser was born March 8, 1888, at Nevada, Iowa, and died at Roland November 28, 1934, at the age of 46 years, 8 months and 20 days.

On September 30, 1914, he was united in marriage to Miss Ora Keiser of Belmond, and to this union one son, Aloys N. Simser, was born. He is survived by his wife and son, his aged parents, Mr. and Mrs. N. Simser, and one sister, Miss Erma Simser, who lives with her parents at Whittier, Cal.

Mr. Simser came here from Nevada 24 years ago and began work for the Story County Independent Telephone company, which later was sold to the Iowa Continental Telephone company. He worked continuously for these companies, being in charge of the exchange here, until last November 15.

The funeral was held Monday afternoon at the home and at Salem Lutheran church, Rev. Olaf Holen officiating. Interment was made in the Roland cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. O. S. Boyd sang at the residence and at the church and a quartet composed of Mrs. O. S. Boyd, Mrs. Boyd Michaelson, Mrs. M. M. Eggland and Mrs. Cyrus Thompson also sang at the church. The pall bearers were S. H. Frederickson, O. S. Boyd, W. A. Cunningham, Fred Waugh, F. M. Boardman and Irving Kirk.
