EDWIN MARION BLANCHARD

Edwin Marion Blanchard passed away at his home in northeast Chariton, Wednesday evening, May 31, 1911, at five o'clock, after an illness of several months with heart trouble. He had been a very active man, was engaged in farming until six years ago, when he retired on account of failing health and strength.

He was quiet and unassuming and was beloved by his neighbors and fellow men. He was a Christian man in deed and thought and his aim in life was to better the conditions of others. He was a kind, loving husband and father, and a good neighbor. His death will be mourned by a large circle of friends.

Mr. Blanchard was bon in Charlton, Mass., Aug. 15, 1840. At the age of 12 years he went with his parents to Moline, Ill., where he lived 14 years; from there he went to Lockport, Ill., and from there to Belmond, Wright County, Iowa, where he was married to Abbie Ellen Stearns, of that city, on Christmas day, 1864.

In March, 1865 they moved to Washington County and thirty-four years ago came to Lucas County, where they resided on a farm near Russell until six years ago when they came to Chariton.

They were the parents of 10 children, seven of whom are living: Mrs. Ella Vinsel, of Russell; Ed B., of Rapid City; Stillman, of Melrose; Will and Harry, of Chariton; Francis, of Des Moines; and George, who resides on the home farm. Mrs. Leila Harr died in 1895, Louis and Clara in childhood.

Funeral services were held from the home Friday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. Aszman, pastor of the Presbyterian church, and interment was made in the Chariton Cemetery. A large concourse of friends followed the remains to their last resting place.
